My Birthday

Today flowing gently to the where ever, to the unknown sea.
Inside this little boat I sing, and welcome the music from the far shore.
I wait for the wind to come, and sometimes it just touches my lips,
and goes on its journey.  Sometimes it turns my boat,
and sometimes it tears my sail, and then all is quiet, and I sit awhile.
The fear leaves, and the waves rock me to rest.
I will repair the sail, and welcome the wind.
May my heart dance awhile more,
while I have the breath, the will, the time.

Truth

There is a key that opens the door of my heart.
The freedom of being that breaks all the bolts on my gate.
The truth is letting go of the past, which lets me make a life today.
It is dying to everything we carry that is too heavy.
There must be a completely empty space in my heart
to welcome the new creative moment, I am.
The truth of knowing that the one source is within us sets us free.

My Father

He left when I was a year and a half old.
The Social Security office helped me find him when I was twenty five.
We wrote to each other for months.
I said, "I'm coming to see you," and he said, "Son, now is not the time."
A few weeks after the last letter,
I got a call from the county administrator in Los Angeles.
He said, "Your dad died on the street."
He died drunk. I was the only one at the funeral.
I shared this story at an AA meeting one night.
I said I didn't want to be like my father. When he died he had nothing.
An old man came up to me after the meeting,
and looked me in the eyes, and said, "He had you."

The Man In The Glass

When you get what you want in your struggle for self,
and the world makes you king for a day,
go to the mirror and look at yourself,
and see what the man has to say.
For it isn't your mother, or father, or wife,
whose judgement upon you must pass.
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life
is the man staring back from the glass.

Some people may think you a straight shooting chum,
and call you a wonderful guy,
but the man in the glass says your only a bum
if you can't look him straight in the eye.

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years,
and get pats on the back as you pass,
but your final reward will be heartache and tears
if you cheated the man in the glass.

The Willows

Sometimes the willows along the river just want to hold you,
while the sky comes to touch your eyes.
You can hear the waters' music if you lie still.
These special days you can dream about, even when they are gone.
There is time enough for the wonderous moments,
waiting by the willows and water.
Come, come where ever you.

Circling

They have been circling for a thousand years.  Round and round they go.
Can they be stopped?  Will they ever stop?
They keep me bound from my freedom.
There is a way to break free of all the thoughts.
If you don't break your chains while you are alive,
do you think the angels will do it for you later?
Make love with the divine now.
If you find nothing now, there will be nothing later.
Believe in the great source - it breathes you.
The God of silence awaits your coming

Grateful

When we are grateful, the flowers come alive in our garden.
The light comes in abundance to a thankful heart.
Sometimes the garden has been neglected, or violated,
but the source is still there, the good seeds waiting.
The negative emotions can be lifted,
and the dormant seeds come to life with forgiveness.
To sit in the garden, and nourish the seeds within
allows much fruit to be shared.
Find your garden, and let it nourish you with its gifts.

A Child's Affirmation

Awhile back a lady asked me to write a few affirmations
for a children's book she was writing.  She is 84 years old.
I wanted to keep it simple.
Here are the first four affirmations:

I Am Love!  I Am Loved!  I Can Love! I Can Be Loved!

The Call

I called this morning, a person that was close to my heart
when I was a young boy.  She was a little older than me.
She was a nun at the orphanage farm where I grew up.
I have not seen her in 43 years.
We laughed and shared together on the phone.
Then she said, "I have a message for you.
I have loved you with an everlasting love,
So I am constant in my affection for you"

Life

Life is natural. We eat, we sleep, we make love.
Be grateful you get hungry and tired,
and want to be touched or touch.
This natural divine manifestation has to do with making love.
Making love with ourselves, with others, and with the wind and rivers too.
It's not about trying to be spiritual, and forgetting the natural.
Trying to live life, with the illusions of what we think
will stop the rivers, and stop the heart.
It's not in the thinking, it is in the truth,
and sharing our very nature within, which is Love.
It's not that you breathe, but that it breathes you.
